To protect the wooden façade it is necessary to coat it first with a primer which carries substances that protect the wood against blue stains and mold and will be absorbed by the wood. The primer also makes sure that the finishing colour adheres well to the surface.

Exterior cladding boards are painted right after sawing or planing because then the pores in the wood are still open and the paint will be absorbed better; that ensures better protection and adhesion.

However, using only the primer does not protect the surface in the long term, because it becomes brittle in the UV radiation. Therefore it is necessary to coat it with a finishing paint, the layer of which stays soft and flexible for years, thereby preventing the formation of cracks when the cladding boards get wet and dry again, it also offers protection against UV radiation.

One of the characteristics of the finishing paint is poor absorption into the surface that has not been primed, resulting in the peeling of the paint. By combining priming and finishing paint you will achieve as a result a facade that stays beautiful for years.

The primer and top coat, applied in the factory, protect the facade from rain, sun and dust. After installation, the painting process can start immediately. A final coat of paint is certainly necessary because it can cover damages that have occurred during installation and the heads of the nails that have been used to fasten the boards. The end surfaces of the boards that have been sawn during installation have to be painted as well because the moisture is absorbed most extensively by these surfaces. Regarding the later maintenance, it is important that the painted surfaces are not cleaned with chemicals. For re-painting the same type of paint should be used.

The advantages of industrial painting:

  • The production building has a stable temperature and humidity.
  • It is possible to apply a surface layer of optimal thickness, which ensures better quality and durability.
  • The material absorbs the primer better right after the planing, but not so well after a longer period.
  • When installing, the weather conditions do not have to be taken into account.
